What’s the Difference between the EIPA, NIC and SLPI?

Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA): The EIPA is a performance assessment designed to evaluate the interpreting skills of educational interpreters working in K-12 settings. It assesses various aspects of interpretation, including accuracy, fluency, and clarity, to ensure effective communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff.

National Interpreter Certification (NIC): The NIC is a certification program for sign language interpreters in the United States. Administered by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), the NIC assesses interpreters' skills in both expressive and receptive interpreting, as well as their knowledge of ethical standards and cultural competence. It is a widely recognized credential for interpreters working in a variety of settings, including educational, medical, and community settings.

Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI): The SLPI is an assessment tool used to evaluate an individual's proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). It assesses both expressive and receptive skills, as well as fluency, vocabulary, and grammatical accuracy. The SLPI is often used by educational institutions, employers, and organizations to determine an individual's level of proficiency in ASL for educational, employment, or certification purposes.
